About Fort Walton Beach Leadership
The Fort Walton Beach High School Leadership program is the spear head for community service in Okaloosa County Florida. The Leadership program was founded by Patti Bonzzi in 1997, the following year Barbra Britt had the privilege of taking over the program. The primary goal of the Leadership program is to challenge the students in both their academic and personal lives along with teaching them the importance of giving back to the community. When the program was created Leadership was a single class of 27 students, but now the program has grown to include grades 9th - 12th and over 300 active students. Under the direction of Mrs. Britt, the Leadership program has taken on a second teacher Mrs. Smchidts, to help facilitate the growing program. Two important elements of the program are school spirit and Viking pride. The Leadership classes pride themselves on their efforts in the community which include: natural disaster relief, mentoring children, community outreach, feeding the homeless, and being an overall leader within their school. In the past year Fort Walton Beach High School's Leadership program as given a surplus of 45,000 dollars back into the community.
